چکیده

In the past few years, rapid strides have been made in our knowledge of the origin of the extra methyl and ethyl groups in the side chain of plant sterols. It now appears that desmosterol (3) (fig 1) or another A24 sterol is the recipient of a methyl group from S-adcenosyl methionine resulting in the formation of 24-methylene cholesterol (III) which is the receptor of another methyl group to form fucosterol (IV). The 2 methylation reactions account for carbon atoms 28 and 29 found in most plant sterols. However, with only a few exceptions ('pri-

Sterols of Chlorella. II. The Occurrence of an Unusual Sterol Mixture in Chlorella vulgaris.

The first identification of a sterol in Chlorella was by Klosty and Bergmann (5) in 1952 when they isolated ergosterol from Chlorella pyrenoidosa. More recently, Otsuka (6) identified ergosterol and a A5 sterol in Chlorella ellipsoidea. Ergosterol was the principal component of the mixture. Recent work in this laboratory has been centered about the identification of sterols from other species o...

Identification and localization of carbonic anhydrase in two chlorella species.

Carbonic anhydrase (CA) activity and localization have been examined in two species of the eukaryotic green alga Chlorella. Mass spectrometric and potentiometric assays of CA activity indicate that C. ellipsoidea contains very little extracellular CA activity whereas C. saccharophila exhibits significant extracellular activity when grown at alkaline pH values. Extracellular CA activity appears ...

Overexpression of the soybean transcription factor GmDof4 significantly enhances the lipid content of Chlorella ellipsoidea

BACKGROUND The lipid content of microalgae is regarded as an important indicator for biodiesel. Many attempts have been made to increase the lipid content of microalgae through biochemical and genetic engineering. Significant lipid accumulation in microalgae has been achieved using biochemical engineering, such as nitrogen starvation, but the cell growth was severely limited. However, enrichmen...
